Overcoming Writer's Block

Writer's block. It happens to us all. Whether we are writing a book or even an essay, those periods where we can't seem to get anything down can be frustrating. Let's talk about some tips on how to refresh your mind and get back to the grind. One common reason writer's block is timing. It's just not time yet. Your ideas need to straighten themselves out before you can start writing. Another reason is fear. Many writers struggle with being afraid and putting their ideas out there for everyone to see and critique. Fear is a major reason some writers never become writers. A big thing to remember is that your writing doesn't have to be perfect; if you think that way you'll never end up starting. If you find yourself stuck when writing; take a break. Do something to get your body moving. Go on a walk, stretch, even dance; get that blood flowing. If moving around isn't really your thing, some creative writing exercises may work better. Do some freewriting, brainstorm ideas you have and organize them. Listen to a different type of music. Even sitting in a new room with your computer and a cup of coffee could help stimulate your brain. Once you start heading in a direction, it will easier to pick up speed. Before you know it, your writer's block will be a memory of the past and you’ll be doing what you once thought impossible. You’ll be writing.
