Poetry is the most artistic and liberating form of creative writing. You can do just about anything in a poem; that’s why poetry writing is so wild and free. Poets have complete liberty to build something out of nothing simply by stringing words together.
If you are a young person under 17, we want to read your poetry. We are looking for talented poets to feature on our monthly newsletters. This is a free contest, so there is no entry fee. When you submit a poem to us, you retain all the rights to your work. Winning poems will appear on our newsletters with the copyright notice intact and may be published in the future.

The poem must be your own original work, and can be about anything you like. (Offensively graphic poems or those containing profanity will not be accepted.)

Don’t know where to start? Here are some tips to help get you started
1. Read lots of poetry.
2. Try writing in different forms (sonnets, haiku, etc.).
3. Embrace metaphors, but stay away from clichés.
4. Eliminate all unnecessary words, phrases, and lines. Make every word count.
5. Notice what makes others’ poetry memorable. Capture it, mix it up, and make it your own.
