Meet the Author: Willow Evergreen

Willow Evergreen, a 23-year-old freelance artist and author of the book The Tiger Empress is celebrating her first year of publication with Sajina's Publishing Company. The Tiger Empress is an empowering story of a young girl's life being turned completely upside down after a plane crash leaves her near stranded and separated from her family. Noire must rebuild her life from the ground up and fight to get through each day. Noire learns to redefine the meaning of family and paves her own future in this beautiful coming-of-age novel. Writing specialist Lucina Maskel spoke to her about what it is liked to get published and her tips for beginners.

Question: How did you find out about Sajina's Publishing Company?

Answer: I actually found out about SPC through a mutual friend. I had mentioned to him I had been writing a book and he told me he had another friend who ran a publishing firm. I was able to get some contact information through him and ended up calling.

Q: Was the process complicated?

A: Well, there is some legal stuff you have to go through and a lot of other minor details, but the staff helps you out a bunch of that so I wouldn't say it was too complicated, just a lengthy process.

Q. How long did it take your book to get published?

A. It took me about 7 months, but it can vary depending on the book.

Q. What inspired you to make this book?

A. I feel the reason I needed to write this book was to empower the youth. They are the ones who

are going to change the world. They are so much more accepting of others and their differences. My main character Noire is a closeted lesbian and has to learn throughout the book to have faith in who she is.
